Local season keeps getting better. This week brings Northwest Gravenstein apples, organic heirloom tomatoes and blueberries, plus new Oregon-grown hazelnuts from Freddy Guys Farms. And for a little something from farther away, we’ve got juicy Aussie Deko tangerines in the mix, too.
One of the first apples of the season, Gravensteins have green-to-yellow skin with a rosy blush and a crisp, juicy bite. Their bright, tart flavor makes them especially good for baking, sauces, compotes, and other cooked applications where you want the apple flavor to really come through.
These Australian tangerines bring plenty of color to the table, with vibrant orange skin and juicy, easy-to-segment flesh. Sweet with a lively citrus finish, they’re great for salads, desserts, garnishes, sauces, or anywhere a fresh pop of citrus works.
A colorful mix of heirloom tomatoes in an assortment of shapes, sizes, and shades—every case brings a little variety. Their full, garden-ripe tomato flavor makes them an easy choice for seasonal salads, caprese, tartines, roasting, or simply slicing and letting the tomatoes do
Plump, deep blue berries with that sweet-tart flavor that makes fresh blueberries such a summer staple. Use them across both sweet and savory menus, from pastries, pancakes, and desserts to salads, sauces, and compotes.
Grown by Freddy Guys Farms in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, these whole raw hazelnuts are a local ingredient with plenty of possibilities. Their mild, naturally nutty flavor makes them a great starting point for pastry and baking, pralines, confections, nut butters, or roasting in-house to your preferred level.
Also grown by Freddy Guys Farms in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, these whole hazelnuts come already roasted, bringing out a deeper aroma and richer, toastier flavor. Ready for bakery and pastry applications, chocolate work, desserts, salads, or chopping into a crunchy finishing element.
Fall fruit season is getting underway. New-crop Gala apples, Honeycrisp apples, Bartlett pears, and Crimson pears are starting to arrive, with more volume and great quality expected in the weeks ahead.
2. Local Produce Continues to Shine
The Northwest is showing off right now. Local green beans are looking fantastic, local blackberries are available, and organic heirloom tomatoes from regional growers continue to deliver great color and flavor.
3. Citrus Season Is Expanding with New Imports
We're starting to see more seasonal citrus hit the market, including Cara Cara oranges, blood oranges, Australian navels, and seedless mandarins. It's a great time to start planning citrus features as quality and availability continue to build.
4. Cherry Season Is Nearing Its End
Northwest cherry season is in its final stretch, with about a week to ten days of availability remaining. If cherries are on your menu or promotion plan, now is the time to grab them before the season wraps up.
5. Some Produce Categories Will See Market Increases
A few produce markets are starting to climb, including melons, onions, and larger tomatoes. We're expecting pricing to firm up over the next couple of weeks, so it's a good idea to plan ahead where possible.
